Artificial Intelligence Trends for 2021

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to any human-like intelligence exhibited by a computer or other machine. AI is what enables computers and machines to mimic the perception, learning, decision-making, and other capabilities of the human mind.

Two terms commonly associated with Artificial Intelligence are Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL).

Machine Learning is an application of AI and an approach to achieve artificial intelligence. ML is the practice of using algorithms to parse data, learn from it, and make predictions about something.

Deep Learning goes one step further. DL is a subset of Machine Learning that structures algorithms in layers to create an “artificial neural network.”

Overall, we have a long way to go before AI can mimic a true human mind or make the kind of decisions we see in Science Fiction movies. However, last year, artificial intelligence made significant progress in many areas. There were achievements in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Graphics, Animation, Image, and Video Processing as well as Processing Power. NLP, the interaction between human languages and machines has dramatically improved the way machines interpret language. The Graphics, Animation, Image, and Video Processing has allowed machines to interpret more meaningful stimuli, and the Processing and Computation Power has achieved record-breaking milestones.

Where Will AI Take Us Next?

When it comes to top AI trends for 2021, there are several facets of IT that will be improved upon in the coming year.

  • Greater Cloud and AI Collaboration: Like AI, there were major enhancements and increased adoption rates for cloud computing in 2020. This year, we will see that adoption increase with the integration of AI analytics for better predictive decision-making and allocation of resources.
  • Robotization: Organizations have already begun to use programmed robots in warehouses and assembly lines. As AI advances, so will the robotization, automation, and training of machines to handle certain tasks.
  • Cybersecurity Advancements: Cybersecurity was also a hot topic of 2020 as the world faced its worst year of online attacks. In 2021, organizations have a larger focus on security as a whole, and with artificial intelligence, teams can make better decision making, processes, and enable better email spam filtering.
