What You Missed at Apple’s Latest Event
During Apple’s latest virtual media event on Tuesday, September 14th, they unveiled four new iPhones, a new Apple Watch, and two new iPads during their biannual update.
iPhone Update
The new smartphones that were announced included the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Each of these phones has a better camera, a longer-lasting battery, and faster processing power. The phones also include a new portrait mode for shooting videos (perfect for TikTok) and an all-new OLED display with Pro Motion. The Pro and Pro Max start at $999 and $1,099, and the phones come in graphite, gold, silver, and Sierra blue period the iPhone Mini starts at $699 and will come in five new colors including pink, blue, black, white, and red.
iPad Update
In addition to the new iPhones, Apple unveiled updates to its iPad and iPad mini line. The iPad mini has a new screen design, super-fast 5G, and a powerful new 15 bionic chip. In the newly updated iPad line, each iPad starts with 64B of storage and utilizes true tone technology. The full-sized iPad costs $329 and only $299 for students. Pre-order for these devices began last week and shipping will begin this week.
Watch Update
Also during the event, Apple released its new Apple Watch series seven. This is a slimmer device with a wider screen, 20% wider than the series six. It is the largest and most advanced always-on retina display and will charge 33% faster than previous iterations of the Apple Watch. The new device starts at $399 and will be available later this fall.
Miscellaneous Updates
At the end of the event, Apple also announced that it will release its next round of software updates including the iOS 15, watch OS8, iPad OS 15 on Monday, September 20th.
They also teased new features for Apple Fitness Plus and teased upcoming TV shows and movies launching on Apple TV+ to compete with other providers like Netflix, Disney Plus, and Hulu.
